DescriptionEuropean comics heroes may have super-powers but typically don't wear costumes. Harlan Draka is a human/vampire hybrid, a Dampyr from Eastern European lore. He hunts vampires in his ongoing series Dampyr, which celebrated its 300th 94-page monthly installment in 2025. How many American comics heroes have 30,000 pages published? Like Neo from "The Matrix," Harlan wears a trenchcoat instead of a cape. He has normal strength but superhuman toughness and healing powers, and he can detect the presence of vampire lords. He coats his bullets and knives in his blood, which burns vampires like acid. Ching gives us a John Woo-style double-pistoled Harlan, with a halo of flames that drip into blood. Harlan is modeled on Lenny Nero as portrayed by Ralph Fiennes in the 1995 film "Strange Days." Whether Ching knew that or just worked from images of the film or comic book versions of the main character, he did a good job capturing Harlan's likeness. The background vampire is taken specifically from the 2022 "Dampyr" film. He's one of the thralls of Gorka, Master of the Night. Social/Sharing |

the mystery sketches travel to europe, pretty cool! Elvin does a nice job giving us a movie poster style feel for the character and the universe of Dampyr. 300 issues of 94 pager stories on a monthly basis is quite impressive, I enjoy seeing what you share from those here. have they ever considered doing english translations or is the interest not really there?

The first two issues were republished in English as a single 192 pages story "Dampyr: Son of the Devil" in 2020, perhaps in anticipation of the English Dampyr film covering the same origin story, which was released in 2022. It's a decent action film with a particularly good portrayal of Kurjak, the Bosnian soldier drawn into vampire-hunting.

That's pretty boss! Elvin was willing and able to take this assignment and deliver with the cinematic look!
