Description

A concept drawing of a Colonial Viper hand-drawn by renowned effects illustrator and designer Joe Johnston for Glen A. Larson's "Saga of a Star World," Battlestar Galactica's pilot episode. Colonial pilots flew their signature Viper fighters in battles with the Cylons throughout the series. Larson later used early designs for the signature fighter craft of the Colonial fleet in his follow-up series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, where the spaceship was known as Thunderfighter, the signature starfighter of the Earth Defense Directorate.

This drawing depicting an early three-quarter view of a Viper was created for the miniature and optical effects unit. It is rendered in ink and marker on vellum, labeled "Obsolete 18," and signed by Johnston. The top right corner is torn and exhibits pinholes along its bottom edge. Dimensions: 24" x 18" (61 cm x 45.75 cm)
