Description

A concept illustration of a Colonial Viper hand-drawn by renowned effects illustrator and designer Ralph McQuarrie for Glen A. Larson's Battlestar Galactica. Larson later used McQuarrie's early designs for the signature fighter craft of the Colonial fleet in his follow-up series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, where it was known as Thunderfighter, the signature starfighter of the Earth Defense Directorate.

McQuarrie is widely considered one of the most influential illustrators in Hollywood cinema. In addition to creating key character and set artworks for George Lucas' original Star Wars trilogy - many of which were later published in portfolios well-known to collectors - he created concept sketches and paintings for beloved franchises including Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

This illustration depicting a fanged spaceship with a Thunderfighter's yellow detailing on its front instead of a Viper's orange is rendered in mixed media on illustration paper by McQuarrie. Its right edge and corners exhibit creasing. Dimensions: 12" x 9" (30.5 cm x 23 cm)
