French Milk (2016)

�� I really enjoyed Relish: My Life in the Kitchen by Lucy Knisley. It was available at the Alameda County Library where I work and I borrowed it. Lucy's early works are largely memoirs with amusing and insightful incidents. In 2014 at SDCC, I was walking by the Fantagraphics booth and saw Lucy signing so I bought her then new book An Age of License. This book describes a trip to Europe including a comic convention appearance. The cartoonist was a Special Guest and wrote up her experiences in Lucy's San Diego Comic Convention Sketch Book. I went back and read the first book French Milk which covers a weekslong trip to France with her mother including a stop in Angouleme. I look forward to reading all her books and purchase the latest graphic novels from Alex at Treasure Island Comics in my hometown while I borrow her picture books from the library. Sometime along the way, I signed up for her Patreon for some delightful short form comics and news. I was excited to see the Sugar Shack book tour in 2025 included a stop at Books Inc. store in Campbell. I use to be a frequent shopper, but haven't visited in a long time except for the Guy Delisle event at their Palo Alto location. Lucy did a fun and informative question and answer session and signed books for over an hour. She drew a remarque for each book and conversed with every fan. My mother reads some of her books and I share my books with my cousin Steph and her two little boys.
