Description

I have always loved Neal Adams' Tarzan book cover paintings from the 1975 Ballantine paperback editions. As a kid reading these stories in this format, for me these depictions on the covers by Adams were the REAL TARZAN! When the Sal Q portfolios of these gorgeous Adams paintings were issued I bought them up and devoured them.

This striking image was published as the cover art for the "Set C" portfolio envelope. I am more than just a little thrilled to have something so spectacular from Neal's Tarzan project in my collection. Ca. 1975-1980; 14 x 15.5 inches

As usual, you have great taste Tom. I was sooooooooo close to pulling the trigger on this at more than a few points and seeing it now in your gallery I obviously made a mistake not doing so. Congrats buddy, super addition!

A really striking piece of art, Tom. Adams clearly put a ton of effort and energy into cretaing this piece. Beauty!

Great taste Tom.  Brilliant art by Neal, and for those of us around then, this is a very memorable piece.  It almost landed in my collection about 10 years ago, but I see it's found an excellent home.

Thanks, Scott! No surprise this jewel was within orbit of the collection of such an Adams connoisseur as yourself. :-)

This lush piece was on my radar for a long time! It's a perfect vintage aggressive Adam iconic drawing that many of us grew up loving. Smart to pull the trigger on this--  and it's a cover besides!!!

Yup, I bought all three sets of these Sal Q Tarzan ports.  In fact, I got so tired of having to constantly pull them out to look at them, that I eventually ended up framing the entire series of prints.  Nothing fancy, just store bought frames (I got a discount where I worked back then).  But at least I could see them whenever I wanted.  This is an absolutely gorgeous drawing and I am so jealous right now.  Congrats Tom!

Wow, this is incredible!  I totally agree with you that Neal's Tarzan is the real Tarzan.  His Tarzan painting are some of his best work.  A few years ago at SDCC I asked Neal about the painting and he told me that he still has them all expect for the few he gave to his children.

I was at a mid-90's show, possibly in Philadelphia, when this walked into the room and Scott Dunbar bought it.  He was beyond excited, which I didn't understand at the time becasue it was "only a pencil piece".  Kids say the darndest things...
