DescriptionWildey is one of those artists whom I admire but am only sometimes smitten with a page. That has happened a few times with one of the weekly reviews of the comic art that sold the week before so I obviously missed out on those (and currently work too late on Wednesday to bid on the weekly Heritage one ) but this page was in a signature auction when I was actually off and it rocks. I really spent too much on it (but that could be said of this year, when I spent at least twice as much as any other year, esp. when I often only get a $200 sketch or something similar) but I think it's a freaking great page. The rest of the book has good storytelling but here, in the climax of the story, he does all of these wild panels and great things with zip-a-tone (and of course it printed poorly). In the first panel the scene is angled to the right but chair falling backwards, the girl ducking down and Hex's jumping/running to left balances it out. I cannot even express how cool the middle panels are. Just look at 'em. The only thing that could make owning this better would be getting the next page as wellh, which has one of those great bits of Jonah Hex dialogue. The man lifting his gun in the last panel here is knocked out in the first one of the next page and in the next panel the guy with suspenders who was giving up on this page says, “T-two'a those men m-men you killed…They’s muh…muh brothers!” and Jonah response is, “Congratulations! Ah can’t remember when I’ve met a nicer family!” Social/Sharing |

An instant buy with Doug Wildey art. He stages the action on the page so well with the gunplay and the smoky atmosphere of the dust settling.

And I know who 'caused' me to 'have to' spend so much to get this. And, now, of course it is no surprise as I've heard you talk about your love for Jonah and I suppose there is some merit to bidder collusion -- agreeing beforehand to not bid against each other on certain items..... I actually have more affection for the Vertigo Truman/ Glanzman but that's less for artistic reasons as nostalgia. Stuff like this and Garcia-Lopez can't be beat for quality.
