Description

Time to start a new Dampyr adventure! This is the earliest one yet that I've shared, and I own about half of the 94 pages. It introduces a couple of significant recurring characters.

In 1847, some members of a snowbound wagon train, the "Donner party," resorted to cannibalism in the Sierra Nevada mountains to survive until relief arrived; 39 of the 87 pioneers perished, though not all were eaten.

This issue of Dampyr opens with a similar dilemma. A plane crashes in the wintry Swiss Alps, and as days pass, the passengers contemplate their options:

“It’s no use. We’re all going to die.”

“Have faith. We have to believe we’ll survive.”

The album title "Gli Insaziabili" could be transliterated "The Insatiable Ones," or more briefly translated "The Famished Ones" or "The Hungry Ones," depending on whether one wishes to be more pithy or more emphatic. After trying on various options, I decided to leave the title just as the evocative adjective "Insatiable."

I lived near Donner Pass for a bit in my youth and I can say, it's brutal there in the winter.

Hope they brought plenty of salt and pepper ;)

An intriguing start to a new Dampyr adventure! I can't think of many worse scenarios than a plane crash that you survive but then you're trapped in a freezing cold ice climate with no help anywhere in sight and your only food options being the surrounding dead or even your fellow survivors. This should certainly be interesting! Also, excited to see a different Dampyr artist's work after so much Cropera and Dotti for a few months.

Lovely page. Always a disturbing topic after reading about the Donner party in a vintage Sierra Nevada book I read back in the day.
