Description

Let me first begin by apologizing for the lack of a good scan (the only device I have available right now is a digital camera). This piece combines two of my loves: the work of James Jean and the work of Japanese anime director Hayao Miyazaki. When I saw the cover to Fables #15 I figured that JJ was probably a fan of Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke. After I saw that cover I continually imagined how James would interpret Miyazaki's great character. At Heroes 2006 I got the chance to find out. The details in this piece are amazing. I love James inclusion of the Tree Spirits.

I've only recently been turned on to the joys of James Jean, but I've been a fan of Miyazaki since the early 1980's and it looks like you got the right mix of (pop) cultures with this commission.

What a great piece Nick. I would never have thought to get James to do Princess Mononoke, but seeing it I reallize how perfect an idea that was. Congrats!!
