DescriptionIn September 1972, a six year old (ME) and my brother were shown a batch of comics from our much older cousin including romance, King Kong, Sad Sack, Richie Rich and others but it included two coverless superhero comics. This is the first page of the first comic book I ever read and I was entranced -- who was this Justice Society, who were the Seven Soldiers of Victory and would they be saved. I could not believe what an amazing comic book it was -- I still have the coverless original and to own the first page of the first super-hero comic I ever read is a treat beyond compare for me -- many thanks to Frank for making my dream come trueLest I forget, Len Wein wrote a super story, Dick Dillin pencilled it tremendously and, of course, Joe Giella inked it into greatness. I know how you feel. Kathy bought me a page from my first comic for my birthday a couple of years ago. This is an excellent example of Dick's work and a good story to boot.

JLA 111 was my first comic, and I've got several pages from that now. Happy to hear you were able to get such a great page from yours as well. Wonder how many comics fans started with Dillin's JLA. All those heroes drawn so well, great time to be a kid!

How wonderful that you can capture a previous moment from your past through this Bronze Age gem.

GREAT story about the art and what it means to you. That's what collecting is all about. Everyone has their own opinion on who's the best...what's the best...and so on.... If you're not collecting for the nostalgia then you're definitely being short-sighted, in my opinion. And, BTW, the splash is cool!

Aside from the lovely nostalgic story behind this acquisition, the Seven Soldier's saga is an important story in JLA history as it became the template for most of the JLA/JSA crossovers to come during the Bronze Age so to have a splash page from it is pretty special in and of itself. Also, while I found Mr. Giella could be a bit hit-and-miss when inking Dillin's pencils, with that great shot of the cosmic Oracle looming over the action, this splash is definitely a hit, and the story is up there with the the Freedom Fighter crossover amongst my favorites.
