Description

The visual depicts "The Battle of Tirad Pass," wherein a 60-man Filipino rearguard commanded by Brigadier General Gregorio del Pilar eventually succumbed to 300 Americans of the 33rd Infantry regiment under Major P.C. March on December 2, 1899 in northern Luzon, Philippines. Del Pilar defended the terrain of Tirad Pass while Emilio Aguinaldo, Philippine President at that time made a good escape through the mountains. After five hours of battle, 52 out of 60 Filipinos were killed including the 24 year old Gen. Del Pilar while the Americans lost 2 dead and 9 wounded. In honor of Gen. Del Pilar's heroism, the Philippine Military Academy was named Fort Del Pilar and a historical marker placed at the site of the battle.

This artwork is reflected the way the artist sees thru the battle scene, that is, his own interpretation. The actual artpiece size is 50 x 68 cm.
