Description

Robert Baxter (1930 - ) is an illustrator and studio artist who splits his time between Connecticut and France. This oil painter was done for a Reader's Digest condensed book version of Morris West's, The Tower of Babel. The illustration saw print in 1968.

The digital picture of the painting does it little justice. The colors are pretty neutral, yet richer than they appear here. The original has the feel of an old master oil sketch, with some lovely tones and figure work. I especially love the composition, with the long floor boards leading to the foreground.
