Description

As a kid, I would watch the Gigantor and Astro Boy cartoons. When I discovered Big Guy and Rusty, the Boy Robot, I instantly thought that a piece by Geof Darrow featuring the four characters was a natural.

I ran into Geof at Heroes Con 2014 and asked him if he was interested in a commission. He wasn't initially, but the next day I told him I was serious and I guess I caught him in the right mood. I explained my idea and he liked it. A few minutes of pricing discussion and we were good to go.

Later, Geof asked for a little more detail about the piece and promised me action, but he wasn't sure who would win. I responded that I expected there would be lots of spare parts lying around. I think I was right. He also mentioned that it would need to be picked up at SDCC 2014. I thought that was possible and agreed.

Now, I understand why he wanted a pickup! The piece is massive - about the size of a sheet of poster board (~22" by ~28"). Hence, the terrible photograph instead of a scan. In fact, I had to arrange for an SDCC 2014 pickup by my friend Mike Steenbergen of Bedrock City Comic Company. Thanks, Mike.
