DescriptionFrom the ComicLink Auction blurb:================= The offered item is the lower panel tier from a 1940s page by Wonder Woman's originating artist H.G. Peter. It was very common for DC art of this period to be cut into three horizontal sections between the rows of panels. This sometimes resulted in pieces becoming separated from the other sections, which is the case here. We are left with two exceptional panels as Wonder Woman wraps up another case with her magic lasso. "Sen 83" is written in the lower left corner of this page, suggesting that this art was intended for inclusion in 1948's Sensation Comics #83, but did not see publication. It is known that the story this art came from was titled "Racketeer's Bait!" because it was actually eventually published in the fanzine Amazing World of DC Comics #2. Wonder Woman is the most significant female hero in the history of comics and she has an avid collector following. Despite her stature, vintage Wonder Woman art remains scarce on the market and this is especially the case for work's by her co-creator H.G. Peter. With Wonder Woman set to appear in the upcoming Batman/Superman feature film and in the Justice League film franchise, we expect for demand for rare examples like this to only increase. The art has an image area of approximately 13" x 6". ================= The story goes that the intern, who saved this page and others like it, was Marv Wolfman. All I know is that I'm grateful that it was saved. Peter's WW work fascinates me and I'm thrilled to own a piece done by him. His art is wonderfully strange. Look at this page. In the left panel, her boot tops curl over and out. In the right panel, she's leaping over traffic while dragging the car fast enough to keep it from dropping. Who thinks this stuff up? I love how full the panels are. It's like Peter couldn't leave white space. Wonderful stuff! Tell me what you think. BTW, this story was printed in The Amazing World of DCS Comics No. 2. You can read a PDF of that version here. P.S. A few notes on the photographs.
P.P.S. Thought you might like to see the letter documenting H. G. Peter's conversation with WMM on Peter's first WW drawings. Click here. Here's an article about Peter deserving more recognition. Social/Sharing |

His art is fantastic, so dreamy, and your panels have the best action from this (almost unpublished) story, the real money shot from the title splash. Congrats!

Very beautiful artwork by H.G. Peter. And the story behind how this was rescued from oblivion is definitely interesting. Thank you, Marv Wolfman!

One of the all-time classic artist/character combinations. I don't think any other character would look right in Peter's hands, but on Wonder Woman it's golden. Congratulations!
