DescriptionMy first comic was Justice League of America #29 (first series) and it made a huge impression on me. You can read more about how I came to read it in the Description of the page my wife gave me from that comic.Since I'm unlikely to find that cover or to be able to afford it if I did, I've thought about having it recreated, but a plain recreation doesn't really appeal to me. However, variations on the theme appeal to me. Todd Reis created a 3D Shadowbox version from scans of the cover for me that is really neat. You can see it here. As time passed, I thought more about the possibility of a recreation, but I still wasn't attracted to the idea of a straight copy. Then, I thought about having a different artist use the same setup, but with their characters (or characters that I strongly associate with the artist). One of the first to come to mind was Scott Shaw! Scott and Roy Thomas created the funny animal book Captain Carrot and his Amazing Zoo Crew for DC in 1982. The series didn't last a long time, but during its run, it introduced the JLA (Justa Lotta Animals) of Earth C-Minus featuring funny animal versions of the Justice League of America. When I made that connection, I knew I had the artist and the idea. As is usually the case, I discuss ideas with the artists and make a list from which my wife can pick ideas for my birthday, our anniversary, or Christmas. This past year she picked Scott (and Katie Cook). Well, it arrived on the 25th, but it was the 25th of February. That's okay, it makes the season last longer and, more importantly, Scott kept in touch the entire time and sent scans which is always appreciated. I think he did a terrific job. What do you think? Oh, yeah, a few facts about the piece:
You can reach Scott and commission him through his Facebook pages or by sending an e-mail to Scott Shaw!. Social/Sharing |

Now that's a fun commission! I missed seeing Scott at a show last year and have been kicking myself ever since then about it! Good to know that he does commissions from home as well!
