Description

Ben Hatke's Zita the Spacegirl series follows the adventures of Zita, a young girl who makes a terrible impulsive mistake that leads to the loss of her best friend. Zita has to undo that mistake. Adventures ensue.

When the book opens, we find Zita standing trial for the crime of saving people. Needless to say, the judge is not the forgiving kind.

In this scene, Zita and her frenemy Joseph are (protected by / trapped in) a force field that is rapidly draining its battery while being threatened by our villain. Zita impulsively insults Joseph who evicts her from the safe confines.

You really should read Ben's books. They are all excellent.

If you didn't tell me they were frenemies, this would have been the mother of all heel turns! The cartooning is strong with the layout and that final open panel that has the curved dome as a false border that is broken up on the other side.
