DescriptionThis was a surprise birthday gift from my wife. I've wanted a piece by Gene for a long time, but was stalled by analysis paralysis. Kathy fixed that problem for me. I will be forever grateful as if I wasn't already. Imagine a wife that supports a comic book habit!Gene and his wife were very helpful to Kathy and I think the piece is tremendous. The Additional Images shows the inked and colored versions. Both were done by Dave Gutierrez, Gene's preferred inker/colorist at the time. Thanks for taking a look. Leave a comment and tell me what you think. PS - This piece is also shown in Gene's Daredevil commission gallery. That posting has a lot more views and several other comments. Check it out. PS. This image was published on page 37 of The Invincible Gene Colan by Aardwolf Publishing. PPS. The colored version of this image was published in Back Issue #45. Social/Sharing |

You seem to have cornered the market on superb art. Gene's lines are alwasy sweet, but this one is plain out of this world

Does your wife have any sisters? Seriously, love that Chrysler Building in the background. And the foreground ain't bad either. Congratulations, Alex!

One of the best commission seen here on CAF until now. I would say, even bette than most of the work of Mr. Colan for the actual series!

Message: Dear Alex,
BACK ISSUE magazine #45 includes an article on Daredevil and the Black Widow. Might I include your COLAN/GUTIERREZ DD/BW commission in the issue?
In exchange for a 300dpi scan of the art, I'll credit your contribution in print and have a comp copy sent to you upon publication in November. Please let me know ASAP if you're able to contribute. Thank you!
Kind regards,
Michael Eury

Always great to see the work of a Legend and nobody has DD swinging into action better than Gene. Congrats!

The tonal work on this is so rich and varied. There will never be another Gene Colan... he is greatly missed!
