Description

Another birthday gift from my bride based on a long string of discussions with Dick where I tried to find the right idea.

Dick Giordano is one of my favorite artists, but I struggled to find the right commission idea. He's worked on everything DC has at one time or another and my theme is artists and the characters I associate them with.

So, what to choose?

Finally, I had it. Why choose one character? The JLA was my first comic so what if I have him do "my" JLA? It seemed like a good match to me. This is the result.

I'm very pleased with it and Dick was exceptionally kind and helpful. I hate to think how many times I bothered him with questions and bad ideas. He cheerfully handled all of them. Dick was a good man and a terrific artist.

Years and years later, after Dick had passed, a lot of the material from his studio was acquired by Anthony Snyder. One of the pieces that Anthony posted was the prelim to my commission. I had to buy that! It's in the additional images.

Wonderful. Dick was coming to CT a few years ago and i was determined to see him and get him to draw something for me, before he could come he passed away and i missed an opportunity to meet and get something from a legend of DC.
