This image was originally produced for the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe but the Phoenix drawing was used instead.
Does anyone know where the Dark Phoenix drawing was published?

This is a very interesting image that I never saw before! Byrne did a comission not long ago based on this image, where he added the Phoenix effect: http://tinyurl.com/noqxp6s

I just learnt in Byrnerobotics that it looks like Byrne sent this drawing of Dark Phoenix to Mark as seen at the top and Joe Rubinstein did the Phoenix version.

One of the best Marvel Handbook illustrations by Byrne.. verrrrry nice! CONGRATS!!!!

For reference - I bought this from John at San Diego Comic Con. I am the Brad he inscribed it to. Had no option as he he took it and signed it without question. I paid $300 somewhere late in the 90s. Later sold it on eBay for e nice profit and always wonder where it ended up.
