Description

This is a very, very early drawing of the characters Cap Stubbs and Tippie, who were featured in a comic strip of the same name. Tippie started out as the smoother short hair dog you see here, maybe a little cartoonier version of Tige. At the same time as this, Edwina was drawing a feature titled Sinbad for Life magazine. This canine companion was a smaller, shaggier version. He proved to be so popular in the magazine's ink wash cartoons, that Edwina changed the comic strip dog to match. This pencil drawing is circa 1924.
