Description

We've all sold/traded away a piece of art and then kicked ourselves. I've done it many times over. It's rare that you ever get the opportunity to get those pieces back.
I grew up in Southern Maine/NH and there was a small local comic show in Dover, NH that I faithfully attended for several years. I always looked forward to meeting Stephen Bissette and getting a copy of the latest Taboo (and always a nice sketch! - thanks Steve!).
In 1988 the big headliners were Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. Local boys who'd recently hit the bigtime with their TMNT - the animated series had begun just seven months earlier.
There was a line of kids getting sketches from both Peter and Kevin. Turtle after Turtle was drawn and both guys were friendly and accommodating with everyone. When it was my turn, Kevin asked what I'd like and I sheepishly asked if he would mind drawing my two favorite Marvel characters instead of a Turtle. He laughed and said he'd LOVE to as he was getting tired of just drawing Turtles all day and was a huge fan of Daredevil himself. (At the time I didn't realize the DD/TMNT connection).
Anyway, long story long...about a year ago I let this piece go in a trade deal and regretted it pretty much the moment I handed the guy the artwork. Then, recently it popped up for sale. It cost FAR more than I ever wanted to pay, but I realized how rare an opportunity it was to be able to rectify my prior poor judgment and just had to buy it.
It's finally home again.

In the end, this piece means more about the personal value because of how strongly you associate with how it was originally obtained as those memories and feelings can't be recreated any more in today's world.

Congratulations, it's always a great feeling to get back a piece of art previously owned, especially when you personally commissioned the piece! I've been down that road myself and know what a wonderul feeling it is to reunite with the piece. It's like welcoming a family member back home!
