DescriptionDoesn't get any better than marvelous Marie Severin. Her run on Doctor Strange is a personal favorite. This is from issue 158 of Strange Tales, in the story that introduced the Living Tribunal. It's "twice up" and the silver age splashes are just so dramatic and fun. Social/Sharing |

Magnificent, Ron. Marie was mentioned at Ramona Fradon's memorial panel in Baltimore on Sunday. How fortunate we are to have such a significant body of work from these two trailblazers.

Greatness of the Marvel Silver Age on display! Marie Severin knew the understood the Ditko Doctor Strange vibe and leans into the pop art psychedelic worlds of 1967! Not only are the ideas fresh, an image like this could have hung on the walls and be stared at for hours on end if one's mind was unlocked.

I love those 2up splashes, and Trimpe's inks are particularly sharp here!

That Living Tribunal is a bit judgemental, aren't they? I mean, do they not know the meaning of the word unwittingly? Three faced heads are clearly not better than one.

I feel like Marie's best work was done during her relatively short run on Strange Tales, especially if you've ever seen any of these pages in person--at large art size they're really fantastic. And this might be the best of the best! I've seen this page before but didn't realize it was inked by Herb Trimpe--maybe another reason it stands out so spectacularly; love how the linework is so defined. Amazing acquisiton--congrats!

What a stunning and disturbing Doctor Strange splash from Marie Severin! I've always been a fan of Marie Severin--She knocks me out with the power of her pencils. And this splash is a perfect example! I love this image of the Living Tribunal--What a strange and yet marvelous creation! He looks almost like a three-faced spirit! Marie was always imaginative! And then, you have her drawing of Doctor Strange at the bottim of the splash, shrinking away from the frightenting Living Tribunal, holding on to his cape which is on fire! Handsomely drawn title splash beautifully inked by the great Herb Trimpe. Great pick-up, Ron!
