Have you ever considered selling a bunch of the weak pieces in your gallery (like this one) and put the money towards one good piece? Quality vs. quantity...

I've never bought for quanity. I buy what I like. I've always enjoyed horror films and I think Bob Almond is a good inker. I have no regrets giving the man some of my money for his work. But thanks for the collecting advice.

You've never bought for quantity? It seems like you have a lot of mediocre/inexpensive pieces. Have you ever counted them all? Woudn't it be better to have 10 GREAT pieces? That's my philosophy. My collection got cut in half in the last few years, but the quality shot up. You're welcome btw... :)

Every page or sketch I buy is appreciated by me. Each artist has given me some form of entertainment with their work and some were kind enough to draw an original for me. That is worth more than money. That is why I collect art. I choose to share it because I hope another person can enjoy a piece or two from my collection. Either from seeing a page from a comic they enjoyed or a con sketch they would never have seen otherwise. I'm sorry you don't enjoy my collection but it doesn't hurt my feelings.

You don't have to apologize. There are a lot of collections on this site that I don't enjoy. I'm just glad that you don't mind me giving you my honest opinion on this stuff (most people would be offended).

This is one of those times that becoming a premium member is worth every penny of the price...just to be able to delete comments on a piece.

BTW....buying what you like is the best part of this hobby and it's different for everyone. Art is in the eye of the beholder, and I respect your eye as much as my own. Thanks for sharing.

Paul, you got some really great pieces. Buy whatever it is you like, period, end of story. No need to explain yourself.

FYI Chris - Paul and I had a conversation prior to me posting any comments and he told me that he thinks people should speak their mind regarding their opinions on art, even if those opinions are negative and even insulting. And, as you can see from his replies, it doesn't really bother him.

I disagree, Chris. I think these comments should be left up. It definitely says a lot more about the guy leaving the comments than the art itself. And the gallery owner has handled the whole thing so well. A lesson, both ways, for us all…

I believe people should buy what they like and not what other people say they should buy. Paul, I think you've put together a fine collection and one of which you should be proud. Hey Tony, maybe you should have taken your own advice, sold some more of your pieces and won that Killing Joke page on Heritage.

I think he should sell his "weak" pieces and buy a CD of eBay art auctions! Act now and get a free virus with every purchase! Or, just sell everything and save his money so he can offer $20K for a Killing Joke page over and over and over again then punk out when the opportunity finally arises.

Hey Lambert, re-read your last comment over and over until you figure out why it makes you look like a dummy (or just have someone explain it to you... slowly.)

I would happily pay $20K for the Killing Joke page that sold in Heritage. :p In fact, there are many pages from KJ that I would pay $20K for! PLEASE SELL THEM TO ME!

Hey Arthur, let me get this straight. You think if I bid $20k for the Killing Joke page that sold at Heritage for $35k, I'd have won? Hmmm.... 2 questions: 1. Did you ride a short bus to school? 2. Was Lambert on your bus?

Lambo S.

Tony, did you even bid $20k on that page? That's a lot of eBay CD's even if you charge extra for the virus-free "option." I suppose this was a touchy subject for you but there's no shame in not being able to compete with Big Timers in the hobby like Ken Danker or Hari Naidu.

Felix  Lu

Yeah, Lambert, don't be a dummy. Also, don't keep making phantom $20K offers in an effort to try to see pieces you'll never buy. That would make you an annoying wannabe. Don’t try to crowbar your way into other people’s deals. That would make you a snake. In general, don’t be a clueless social retard. You’ll find yourself a pariah in the hobby with only Tony to keep you company.

Hey Felix - nice comment. Here's some wise words I read somewhere "I think these comments should be left up. It definitely says a lot more about the guy leaving the comments than the art itself..." Also, you should stick with facts when you're trading insults. Writing things about people that are not true is called libel, and is actionable in court.

Felix  Lu

Is this a fact, Tony: That you asked me to escort you around San Diego Comic-Con '06 because you were afraid of getting your ass kicked by Ken Danker and Hari Naidu?

Leave the libel lawsuits to Hari. He's got the better case.

BTW, since we really should be talking about art...re: your Dark Knight piece (http://tonymarine.blogspot.com/2007/09/dark-knight-returns.html)...nice page of an old guy walking down the street. Now you just need one with Batman.

It really is a shame that the comments for this page have taken a turn to sarcasm and insults. I know you to be fair minded fellows. Sarcasm that can be handled better when spoken in person does not "read" well on the Internet. Neither do insults. I think that you guys can see that this is going nowhere. Everyone has had their say. Let that be the end of it. I will verify that a year ago or so Tony did indeed make me a 20K cash offer on an original from my collection.

Felix, try as you might, your comments about my art don't bother me. You know why? Because you know NOTHING about art, as can be seen by your comments about my "Adam Hughes" piece here: http://cafurl.com?i=4174 You're just one of these comic book collector speculators who made the transition to art so you could be in on the next "hot" thing. Do you know how many times your Dark Knight page sold before you bought it? If it's so great, why was everyone playing "hot potato" with it?

Felix  Lu

I might know nothing about art and my pieces might be hot potatoes. However, I can still learn and I may yet get better pieces. You will always remain Tony Marine.

Felix, just to be clear - I NEVER asked you to escort me anywhere. This is 100% fantasy on your part. I don't know what your problem is, but you need to stop the lying...

That's it! I'll meet everyone posting in this thread behind the school, you guys all line up in single order and I'll fight each of ya one on one as the line goes down! Hopefully we can finish up this business by recess!

I see quite a few very nice pieces in Paul's collection - one's I'd be proud to have in my own. People should collect what they like, period..who's to tell them what they should be doing with their collection. Jeez.
