Description1st appearance of Jim Lee’s Sabretooth design, behind the cover.Great black/white form reversal on his hand and arm that was not fully realized in the color publication. The image was used in Wizard magazine, merchandise, a coffee table book, and the “From Then ‘til Now II” trading card series that features two shots from this page as character cards. First page with all 3 members of Team X (Wolvie, Maverick, Creed) in real time. Nice mug/profile depictions of Wolverine and a full body Psylocke. Distinct Claremont-era letters by Tom Orzechowski – one of his last issues. This issue also introduces Birdy (Sabretooth’s Gal Friday) and Gambit’s real name. Thanks to Austin Gorton for some forgotten detail. Publication Date: March 1992. . Social/Sharing |

If that Sabretooth isn't 'iconic,' then I'm not sure what is! Congrats on a great pick up!!

OMG! What a fabulous page! That bottom panel--Almost a splash by itself--is one of the best Sabertooth drawings ever! Congrats on this one!

Wolverine. Maverick. Sabertooth. Psylocke.
This is one of the first comic pages imprinted on my imaginations as a fresh comic book reader back in the early 90s. The bottom panel forever will stay with me as Lee and Thibert captured the menace that is Sabertooth with that crouched position and cross-hatching and shadowing. And I remember being arrested by the ambiguity of Psylocke's character just within the isolated image of the bottom panel itself. That shot of her, her katana drawn, with Creed and her own menacing, battle-ready expression speaks to the blurred moral lines that helped make the X-Men such an appealing title to me when I was younger and continues to hold an allure for me today.
Thank you so much for sharing this here on CAF with all of us. I'll be coming back to look at it as often as I can.
