DescriptionWhen Mike's Hellboy was announced under the Dark Horse Legend imprint, it was love at first sight. From top to bottom, the book was amazing. Just think, Hellboy - the World's Greatest Paranormal Investigator, was created by Mike Mignola, with scripts by John Byrne, and colors by Mark Chiarello. Legend-ary indeed! This page, from the third issue, is the big reveal of Sadu Hem, the ancient godling child of Ogdru Hem - the Dragon of Revelation, destined to bring about the end of the world! Grigori Rasputin (The Master) discovered Sadu Hem in the Arctic, and had the Cavendish family transport it to their family home, where it was installed under Cavendish Hall. Hellboy, Liz Sherman, and Abe Spien were attacked by Sadu Hem's frog monsters, and taken to the ancient ruins underneath Cavendish Hall. The setting is described by Mignola/Byrne, "there is nothing at all alive down here. No animals. No fish. Not even algae. A place of death. Old death... a place of new death too..." Mignola beautifully illustrates the ancient Hyperborean architecture, described as "statuary a museum curator would give years off his life to possess". Here Rasputin explains to Hellboy and Liz the power of Sadu Hem, as the Sven Olafssen frog monster obediently sits nearby. Mignola focuses on the details, his pencils still show through. And notice how Hellboy's tail stands up, coming up from the previous page. I realized a lack of Mignola art was a major hole in my collection, so I was incredibly pleased to land a page from the original miniseries, "Hellboy - Seed of Destruction" (1994), that was also the inspiration to the first Hellboy movie (2004). The sheer spectacular Lovecraftian goodness of this splash easily make it one of the most memorable pages of THE single most important Mike Mignola story ever.

Loved the series. Love the page, needless to say. The for sale description made me chuckle. Unless you make a deal with the elder gods you will not be around forever, so someone else will own it. 'I cannot lie, that page will fly, when you die.' I suggest a cjange of wording to not in my lifetime. Helpful Pete.

Haha. I think it's implied that the art will join me (when it's time 💀) in my Viking ship burial at sea. Hope that clears it up, Pete.
