Hey Mark,

It's funny that your icon is a home made drawing of the Spidey 39 cover, cause my best bud and I had a contest to

see who could do the best rendition of it when we were in 6th grade.  Still have the drawings!

Ted, we were separated at birth. By the way, who won the contest?

Haha, we each claimed that our own was better, and couldn't come to an agreement on who won!

This is actually one of the drawings I did as a sample trying to break into comics. I was living downstairs from Dan Adkins, and taking advice. (Not necessarily Tarzan, but close enough.) The year, (between 1978-9).

Hi Jerry,

Thanks so much for commenting!

It's nice to know the background of this piece.  It's a lovely drawing.  Love the details and the shadows.  I'm not lying when I state that I think you're one of the terrific underrated artists in the field.

Many thanks. Your post sure brought back memories. Trying so hard just to get recognized. Hundreds of drawings that went nowhere in the process. They certainly weren't all gems. Hell, I was still learning how to hold a brush. And I had Dan in my ear telling me I'd never make it. I miss the old guy.

This was me having recently discovered Frazetta's ink drawings

Heh, we were all dazzled by Frank's work.  So much spec work in this field.  Yeesh!
