Description

Geof Darrow HARD BOILED - NIXON / CARL SELTZ (1990). Geof re-inked his awesome original pencil splash page art from Hard Boiled #2 p14 to create the design artwork for a statue featuring his anti-hero Nixon / Carl Seltz from Darrow's masterpiece with writer Frank Miller, Hard Boiled.

The three-issue Hard Boiled series was published in 1990. It drew wide critical acclaim for Darrow and his incredibly detailed work and unique style. The mini-series won the 1991 Eisner Award for Best Writer/Artist.

Set in a futuristic, apocalyptic version of Los Angeles, the story focuses on Carl Seltz, an insurance investigator who discovers that he is, in reality, a homicidal cyborg assassin. As the title implies, the series is noted for its grim brutality. Seltz has been blown up and really put through the ringer!

This splash was created in the 1990s by Darrow using his unique process of inking the final print image on translucent velum placed directly on top of his tight, heavy pencil page. The image was inked directly from the Hard Boiled original pencils used for page 14 of Hardboiled issue #2 to use as the model for a statue of Nixon / Seltz.

Even with so much damage, the art is flawless in the Darrow style. There isn't a line nor dot left up to chance with how methodical this looks to achieve Darrow's vision.
