�� I bought this watercolor painting by Man Arenas at the Art to Heart: Philippine Typhoon Relief art auction at the 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco on January 16, 2015. My brother's Stuart Ng Books imports his bande dessinee Yaxin, Le Faune Gabriel, Canto I and Le Monde de Yaxin, Tome 1: Le Jour de la Licorne. Man Arenas is also a movie production designer and art director. He is currently working at Walt Disney Animation Studios.

�� The auction started with silent bids written on paper. At the end of the event, about a dozen pieces went to a live auction conducted by Franco Finn of the Golden State Warriors. I thought I might get away with a bargain, but I had an unseen rival on the right side of the packed room. The live auction bidding went to double the written bid, but I won my first piece of the night. Later, I got a congratulatory greeting, but didn't realize it was my rival bidder until getting a phone call from my brother Stuart. It turns out cartoonist Nick Galifianakis was bidding on behalf of an East coast cartoonist. We had a nice talk when we met at CTNX Animation Expo.
