Description

This was a completely nostalgic purchase for me. The earliest comics that I can recall reading are some of the many Sad Sack comic titles that were available. I can still recall copying Fred Rhoads' Sad Sack as a kid; the curve of the forehead, the bulbous nose, and the shape of that ear. I still like Rhoads' work, though I don't really collect it, but when I saw this piece on eBay, with those wonderful block-of-cement feet and the entire cast, I couldn't resist. Drawn in India ink and watercolor.

I have a similar piece, bought for similar reasons. Rhoads definitely had a nice way with color. Love that yours has all the characters.
