DescriptionThis is Marie Severin's tribute to Jack Kirby from the TWO MORROWS KIRBY 100 book published in 2012.On the right is Severin's revision of Kirby's cvr. Mighty Thor kneeling in submission to a triumphant Loki is gone replaced by the hero in a show of defiance. I like Jack's original concept better, but you decide for yourself. Social/Sharing |

Gotta agree with you, as Kirby's has a more regal feel, and of course, the drawing of everything is superb. Marie's version is more dynamic though, and simplified to appeal to us young readers, I'd guess.

Love Kirby, but he wasn't always right just because he was The King. I say the published version is stronger, even if I wish Kirby had drawn it with his likenesses

I agree Marie's cvr. is more dynamic, but it's standard action fare with the hero once again facing danger. On the other hand, Kirby makes the reader ask the question " why are my heroes surrendering to evil?" That's a more powerful moment captured on paper IMHO.
As an adult, I appreciate the subtly but as a kid who read comics for the adventure stories, I admit the drama would've been wasted on me. Knowing his readership, Stan probably made the right call with Marie's version.

Kirby's the better artist but his unpublished cover is a bit static and overcrowded. Marie's cover is more dynamic and has better clarity of image..
