DescriptionThe first year of Daredevil was a mix of Pencilers and Inkers. Issue one was pencilled by the incomparable Bill Everett, inks by whoever was in the bullpen that day and after that we saw 3 issues penciled by Joe Orlando and inked by Vince Colletta. Then, Wally Wood stepped in.Wally pencilled and inked issues 5-8, but just couldn't keep up with the schedule. Wood was a notoriously slow worker. So in issues 9-12, Wood provided layouts, some pencils, but the primary penciling duties fell to Bob Powell and Wood applied the inks. I've been looking for a nice page from the first year of the run and this one with a lot of DD in every panel totally fit the bill! Social/Sharing |

A stellar look with the acobatic dark suit! The movements look so smooth and DD is only finding wind resistance with these graceful movements across the page.

7 panels that work! It's a top-notch page that shows Wood and Powell made a pretty good team. Also, the suits of armor in this issue always make me smile.

I'm a huge fan of Powell's Golden Age good girl art. And although there isn't a single female here in a leopard skin bikini, it's stellar artwork none the less. No doubt accentuated by Wood's masterful finishes.

Super page combining fluid motion (esp. panel 3) and drama with Wood's clean lines and perfectly spotted blacks.

What a stellar page! The Wood run on DD was short but it was hugely powerful and (in terms of the costume design) absolutely influential. Many congrats, Ron!
