I finally have my Sal Buscema Spider-Man!

When I started seriously collecting comics, the three Spider-Man artists were Ron Frenz, Alex Saviuk and Sal Buscema. As a young child, I didn't fully appreciate Sal's work right away, but quickly fell in love with it. While Amazing Spider-Man was the flagship title, Sal was on Spectacular Spidey and he was something you could rely on. While Amazing went from John Romita Jr., Todd McFarlane, Erik Larsen to Mark Bagley, Spectacular always had Sal, 100 issues worth. Granted, since then Romita Jr. and Bagley have established themselves as definitive Spider-Man artists, so Sal, John Jr. and Mark are my favorite Spidey artists ever.

Enough rambling, sorry.

And while Sal has inked the current Nightwing over in Detective Comics, he had never drawn the George Perez designed Nightwing, so I thought it was pretty cool that I have the first Sal Buscema Original Nightwing. I was going to have him do the current costume, but after thinking about it, I thought it would be great to see him do the original costume, I think it fits his style better.

Man, this is really impressive! Of course Sal is a legend, but he obviously doesn't rest on his laurels. He went all out for you, Jerry. The layout is intense, and the sense of suspense is palpable. This is better than even I expected, and knowing that Sal was at the helm, my expectations were pretty high.

Sal can really ink! And I love how he echoes Spidey's left leg with Nightwing's right leg. . . it really brings the piece together.
