DescriptionThis is my holiest of holy grails. THE single piece of art I wanted more than any other on the planet. Before high school I was the joke of art classes; the teacher would excuse me from even trying. One day, on a whim, I decided to take a serious stab at drawing something. I picked up a stack of comics and laid on the bed flipping through looking for something easy to try. This image of Spider-Man was what I picked. It was the very first real drawing I ever did. Poor luck on my wallet's part though for what book it ended up being from... Original Price on the Back: $110 UPDATE: At the 2015 NYCC I finally got to meet Todd McFarlane for the first time. This piece he'd signed long ago for a previous owner, but I asked him to personalize it to me. It's one of only a few I've had personalized in ink. FOREVER: This piece is priceless for me. I'll admire it for my life and donate it after to the Billy Ireland Museum for everyone to admire. Social/Sharing |

Phenomenal example and a great story – funny enough I also had a similar experience with one of the pages I own now. I was in middle school when I took a copy of ASM 319 on the bus and spent the ride trying to copy a large panel of the Rhino – but unlike your story that broken drawing I did never inspired much confidence to pursue art professionally ;) Again, congrats on this killer page!!!

I love the layout of this, the vertical theme then countered by the horizontal finish. A good story indeed! Congratulations, and keep drawing!

Mark - What's also interesting is that the two left panels were taped into place in huge holes cut into the page. No idea if they were just swapped or replaced or what...but its very neat to see how it came together!

Great story... I had a similar experience with a page. Unfortunately it popped up on Heritage and I got smacked down! (I was the underbidder). Oh yeah, McFarlane rocks. Great page from the comic that catapulted Todd's career

I remember EVERYTHING. The gutter, the pigeons, the roofs, the webs. One of the last panels with the black costume. What a page, what a page. Impressive. Congrats.

The image having a personal meaning to you make it even more of a grail, notwithstanding everything from ASM 300 is a grail. The comic itself is a grail!

It's odd that I haven't commented on this page yet. Mainly b/c I visit this piece quite often. It's obviously a great page Jason. Any page from this anniversary book is a treasure imo. Congrats on achieving your grail!!!!

Just noticed that I never left a comment on this amazing page. What doesn't it have going for it? Spidey swinging in his black costume, Eddie Brock, and it's from issue 300. Congrats, you've got a keeper there.

Awesome page. From my experience with the early McFarlane pages, he sold the pages fro less than what was on the back.

Great art and greater story! I, like you, were able to get my absolute grail (and even many secondary grails). I could not think of a price that would get me to sell- having it is worth much more to me than any dollar amount ever could---period!
