Description(1942) (Fawcett Publications) This historic illustration is the original “published” prototype for "Mary Marvel" modeled in the likeness of a young Dorothy-esque, "Judy Garland" by Marcus D. Swayze (with Co-Creator Otto O. Binder). Although this image is most definitely the "1st Drawing Ever Rendered of Mary Marvel", prior to publication her belt buckle was removed and the tops of her boots were slightly altered. With the exception of these two minor changes, this is the very same illustration used when Mary Marvel is first introduced to the reader in the story: “Captain Marvel Introduces Mary Marvel” (from "Captain Marvel Adventures #18" dated December 11, 1942). As per Marc Swayze himself, it should also be noted that this historic illustration is the "ONLY 'PUBLISHED' GOLDEN-AGE MARY MARVEL ART BY HIM TO EXIST!!!" (7-1/2” x 8-3/4”) (Marcus D. Swayze: 7/17/1913 to 10/14/2012) (Otto O. Binder: 8/26/1911 to 10/13/1974)Social/Sharing |
