DescriptionSuper-Con 3 convention program cover by David Williams featuring their special guests Adam West and Burt Ward who started up a convention reunion tour that year. This was when having celebrity guests was not as prominent as today. This convention had the bigger shows take notice and they started booking Hollywood guests soon after to draw more attendance. The convention was held on October 17 & 18, 1998 at the Oakland Convention Center where Wondercon originated. This was the convention that would eventually become Big Wow Comicfest and Silicon Valley Comicon. Because of the two Steve(s) who ran the show, this eventually spun off into Lake Como by Morger and the smaller conventions Wyatt runs throughout California. David Williams captured the fun of BATMAN 66 with the Dynamic Duo surfing under The Bay Bridge with the Bat Surf Board and Bat Shark Repellent. Adam West's passing reminded me of that convention and feelings of nostalgia for that place and time they visited the Bay Area. Rest In Peace old chum.Social/Sharing |

I am always on a look out for David Willaims' artwork. Not only does he have a wonderful style that combines something very cartoony with something very realistic, but he also has a great sense of humor that adds life to everyone of his illustrations. He is also a natural storyteller and all of his sequential work has great flow. Congratulations on a great cover of the Dymanic Duo and a historic piece of comic book community in the Bay Area (miss Oakland WonderCons)!

This is a really fun piece that apparenty antipcates the later populariy of the Batman '66 comics.
Did you have a chance to meet Adam West and Bruce Ward at this con?

Short answer: no.
Long answer: I walked around their table a few times during the weekend and there were people in line. The timing of the auction took place at the end of the con and this was the last piece, so it was too late to get them to sign this. The show runner asked them before the auction, but they didn't want to sign anything without their fee. Understandable since this was outside of their contract and it was a request for something they weren't financially associated with. If they sign one thing for free, then it starts with more requests, and they would look like bad guys for not signing, etc. A very hefty fee for the time and this drawing would have been the only thing I would have gotten signed.
