Description

I met Gene Deitch at Rory Root's Comic Relief during his signing tour for The Cat on a Hot Thin Groove from Fantagraphics. After getting several books signed for friends and myself. I asked Gene for a drawing in my sketchbook since I watched Tom Terrific on Captain Kangaroo when I was a kid. I thought a headshot wouldn't require too much effort, but Gene drew Tom and Manfred with dialog, too. He wasn't entirely happy with the result, but I love the drawing. Later, I donated a copy of Gene's book to the Alameda County Library where I work.
