DescriptionThis piece will always be one of the most special I will ever own and I'll tell you why. At this year's Emerald City ComiCon, I had planned to help out at the Hero Initiative booth. No sooner did I arrive to help set up on Friday, when I got a phone call saying my grandfather had passed away. While this wasn't unexpected, it still hurt to hear it. So, on Saturday, my loving husband could see I wasn't quite myself. I put on a brave face and was being pleasant to folks at the booth, but he could see I wasn't my usual self (something that only someone so close to you can probably see). So, he went over to Frank Cho's table and told him what had happened. He then asked him if he would do a sketch for me. He knows Frank doesn't typically do con sketches anymore, but Frank knows us and he told him how much it would mean to him, to help give me a positive memory from the show. On Sunday, I was called over to Frank's table and presented with this beautiful sketch of Wonder Woman. It was all I could do not to cry. It shown me what a loving husband I have and what a compassionate soul Frank Cho is. I've always said Frank is a sweetheart, but this goes beyond even that. The 2009 Emerald City show will always be the place I learned of my grandfather's passing, but thanks to the caring and support of my husband and Frank Cho, I will always have this most special piece to help remind me that it was also a good place to be, as well. Thank you, Frank. I love you, Jim!Social/Sharing |

Condolences on your grandfather, first and foremost. But it does give a great example of what a nice guy and class act that Frank Cho is. Beautiful sketch!

My condolences to you and your family over the loss of your grandfather. I was at a convention in Pittsburgh when I learned of my grandmother's passing. In honor of her I had a very productive and enjoyable time (it was the first time I was a guest at that convention). I knew Frank Cho was a great artist and it's good to know he's a great friend to you too.

It's weird how something like a simple sketch or even certain comiic books can take us someplace and/or remind us of just how speicial someone in our live is to us. This is one of those and this one will be special for a long time.

Sorry for your Loss. What your husband and Frank did for you is truly amazing. Frank is truly a nice guy and him doing this for you is not suprising.

I'm sorry for your loss. Just remember that a good spouse is hard to find especially one that likes comic art. :)

Wonderful, wonderful story. You will always rememebr this incident and your grandfather because of it. Frank Cho is a fabulous guy -- he's being torn every which way by fan boys these days, but he is a human being and cares! Plus, your hubby! He's a keeper!

A very moving story, Heidi, and a fabulous sketch. Guess we'll never see this one in the marketplace.

My condolences on your loss. My Dad just died on March 20th as well. I'm glad that two wonderful people -- James and Frank -- stepped up to make something especially nice to try and convert your feelings of sadness around your tragedy.

Wonderful sketch from Frank, sorry to hear about the circumstances that brought it about though. You and James have my condolences.

Every once in a while, you hear or story or, in this case, see a sketch that is more than the sum of its parts. Despite the sadness of your grandfather's passing for which I you have my sincerest condolences, your story brought a smile to my face and gave me a sense of – I don't know, perhaps – faith in my fellow man.

Heidi, my condolences to you and your family. You story touched me to my heart. It's a beautiful sketch, not just for it's art, but for what it represents.
