DescriptionThis sketch was done for me at Wizard Wold's Mid-Ohio Comicon 2012. It is Iron Man Mark 3 by Alan Davis. I consider this sketch to be one that was just meant to be. I was not planning on getting a sketch from Alan Davis when I arrived at the show as I generally don't like waiting for a long time in lines, especially for a head sketch. After talking to several people during day one and parts of day two of the con I decided I would try to get in line after his afternoon panel discussion. I walked up to the table and there were two lines, one was closed to new people (it turned out it was for autogaphs) and the other was not moving. I got into the sketch line and not two minutes later the help handed me the last in line sign. I waited and watched as he did head sketches for a number of people in front of me. He ws doing head sketches mostly of females, and he would acknowledge the patron and the line contunued to move. I got up there and he asked who I wanted and I handed him reference for the Mark 3 armor... I thought the rivets in the helmet made him a good choice for a head sketch. He started with a small circle at the top and I thought he probably would draw a little lower to the unibeam like Romita, Jr did in his head sketch. He continued and the spectators around the table were murmuring because he was doing a little more that a head. He glanced up at me and said that since the head was so simple he was giving me a bit more. At this point my friend and comic artist Darryl Banks came over and "Sketch Blocked me". It was actually cool to see a talanted artist as giddy to meet another artist as we as fans can be. I took their picture together and Alan was able to get back to work. He continued to work and when he was finished he turned it toward me and with an wxcited look he shared with me a story that when he was a child in England when you bought comics you would get a gift. He received an Iron Man tshirt transfer. He said that they didn't wear tshirts normally and he had to send his mother to find a white tshirt to put it on so he could wear it. It was a simple story but it gave me a huge kick to have him draw a character that brought back cool memories from his youth. It was the perfect way to end the show for me.Social/Sharing |
