Description

After I graduated college in the early 90's, Wizard Price Guide Magazine was just starting up. They were taking on Overstreet and trying to branch beyond prices, but also creating buzz about comics, hot trends, new heros, etc. Also at this time Ron Lim was hitting a high point on his work with the Silver Surfer. People were taking notice of his art and the great new stories. Ron and the crew on the Silver Surfer were rising stars and hot hot hot, so Wizard asked Ron to do the #5 cover for them. In traditional Wizard fashion, they asked each artist to incorporate thier signature wizard hat and cloak in each cover page. Ron chose a very direct approach to this request, which to me is ironic because it feels like future images of the Silver Surfer as "the Keeper" for Galactus.

But did you notice that something is missing? In the original art, Ron also drew the wizards cap; however, the hat never made the cut. Wizard Magazine used a slightly zoomed in version to fill the cover, and the hat was lost forever from publication. It is only here in the original art that you can see the full image Ron Lim created. Enjoy!

I was 12 or 13 when Wizard Magazine first hit the press. This is a great blast from my teenage past! Thanks for sharing :)
