DescriptionIn this part 5 of Torment, Spidey is in bad shape, the lizard has beat him to a pulp and he's in some rubble. He jumps out, sticks to the wall and sees MJ. In the 4th, bottom panel we see the Lizard moving in for another attack.Prior to this issue, you don't see a lot of spidey masks - I'm guessing it wasn't up to marvel standards. But in SM, Todd had much more creative freedom. This issue was published in Jan 1990. and the Spider-man 3 movie (Tobey Maguire as Spidey) came out in 2007. The scene where Spidey's mask is ripped all to heck, I'd put $$ that the writers/director were inspired by this issue. Social/Sharing |

My thoughts exactly. How could the movie not have been inspired by this…

Yup, loved that torn mask look. Crazy detail on the battle damaged Spidey here, AND some great storytelling as you move down the page. Todd doesnt get enough credit for that at time. Congrats, McSpidey on another...McSpidey :)

Spidey Drive! Todd really leaned into that inner strength with his art, regularly tearing Pete's costume and bloodying him up. It's a brilliant choice, that just brings the reader more into The Struggle. McFarlane really distilled his essence with those choices, and built brilliantly on what Ditko instilled in the character. Another great find. Congrats!
