Tremendous page!  Grell had it all going on in the late 70's.  Fans of fantasy will find plenty to enjoy with sword and sorcery presented on the page!  The handsome faces, body language, and costumes all transport you deeper into the mystery in front of our heroes.

Great page!! Grell's Warlord got me out of being a pure superhero reader.

Heard Mike Grell tell a story in Baltimore once about about Vince Coletta. He had drawn a Warlord page with a horse, a tree, and a bunch of townspeople who had come out to watch a man get hung. Coletta did what Coletta did on deadlines. Story went something like. . . . rather than ink the people, he erased them. If there were no people, there would be no need for horses to bring the people to the site, so he erased them. No people, no horses, so no need for the town in the background. Mike said that when he saw the published page, he went into Orlando's office and almost quit.

In the 1970s nothing was hotter than Sword and Sorcery. And when it came to Sword and Sorcery, nothing was hotter than The Warlord by Mike Grell. Grell combined an understanding of human anatomy, a strong sense of the fantastic and a powerful talent for storytelling enabled Grell to create an well-remembered Sword and Sorcery series. This page is a great example of Grell's work. The projected image of Tara, the reaction of Morgan, the mystery of the palace they are in, it all build into a storyline that thrilled a lot of readers like me.
