Description

�� Bonhams & Butterfields described this drawing as a concept sketch for the Carl Barks Library published by Another Rainbow. Set One came out in 1984 so I figure this was done in the early 1980's when the artist was over 80 years old. The original comic book cover shows Donald holding the ring and standing in front of the sarcophagus. The set's published cover shows Donald and his nephews peering into an open sarcophagus.

�� This piece appears in a Joakim Gunnarson blog post along with two color images. It seems this concept sketch was followed up by a color version for the Carl Barks Treasury. When I posted the above image on Facebook, David Gerstein provided the color scan which I add as an additional image.

Just started getting a better appreciation of Barks' work through one of the Carl Barks Library volumes. Very nice piece.
