DescriptionAt an art party last year a collector brought in his collection (one or two portfolios) of Gene Colan penciled art and I really enjoyed them. I was glad to work out a trade with Greg Hunneryager for this piece done during the time Marvel required artists to do two pages on on piece of board for each issue to save money. The inker refused to ink at that size so we had a rare situation when Colan's Dracula pencils were preserved.Note original date was wrong pulled it from a website sorry- this is from an issue in the late 20's numberwise and the finished inked art was these images Social/Sharing |

I just read your description --- this was done in 1970? ToD went from 72 through 79, right? so I wonder if this predates that title? Do you know which issue and book it was for? And when did Marvel have art done at half size? You're saying these two pages fit on one 11x17 board? Very interesting! They are both gorgeous pages!

I love these two pages on one (although I thought it happened in 1974, based on the other examples I have seen - Creatures on the Loose 32, World's Unknown 8 with Sinbad, etc.) and the detail in Colan's pencils is amazing!

Geez what a time capsule. It makes miss wish I could have seen a whole issue done early on without inks! Palmer was always a class act but nothing could contain the power of Gene!
