Description

Before Dreamwave began bringing a nostalgic tear to the eyes of Transfans everywhere, there was a humble artist with a penchant for drawing everything Transformers related. This artist was going to school to get a degree in art and animation but also did little Transfan artwork commissions on the side to pay for his humble expenses.

One such commission came from a lowly fan in 1999 named Startyde, who desired a full group shot of one of his favorite combiners ever: the Depth Tyrant, Piranacon.

Fast forward to present day. Anyone who knows Transformer's art knows of Dan Khanna. The man who works as an artist for Dreamwave, the man who personally designs the Transformers mini busts and full sized statues being sold across the world, the man who is the official artist of the biggest Transformer convention in the world...Botcon. Fast forward to now...and Startyde still has his original commission.

Look at this baby!!! I paid only pennies for it back in the day compared to what he could charge now, and I still think it is one of his finest works. This baby is huge, full poster size, and each individual Seacon in the pic, including Piranacon, drawn amazingly in pencil...for a grand total of thirteen images on one oversized piece of paper. The grand collage was then scanned into a comp and digitally colored much like today's animated features. It is truly a rare and unique gift from an age long ago when dreams were only something to be seen at night, and the future seemed so long away. This entire setup of original sketches and final product is a testament to artists everywhere, and is an amazing part of The Startyde.
