DescriptionThis isn't the actually published cover, but it's the actual original pencils for it.My recollection of what this cover is is as follows: According to what Jim Demonakos told me when I purchased this from him (likely at San Diego 2000), Erik Larsen gave the pencils to Al Milgrom to ink, but when he saw what Al was doing he asked for the pencils back, put a new piece of board on a lightbox and inked the cover himself. After posting this on CAF, Erik Larsen himself took the time to set things straight, and I'm grateful he did: "Actually, the reason I just pencilled it was that Michael Golden said he'd ink it. He was the cover editor at the time. He assigned it to Al after he found he didn't have time. I was more annoyed at Michael than anything. I thought Al did an okay job and even co-inked an issue with him later." Thanks Erik! Anyway, when I purchased the half-inked piece, Jim offered to have it inked by James Pascoe and I agreed to it: I'm no critic nor expert, but it looks to me like James did a very good job on the side characters and background, and I'm definitely not complaining that this isn't the published version. Awesome cover! Congrats on the acquisition. Since these are Larsen's original pencils, you can always say that it's fifty percent published :)

I think this is a great piece...and a great story to go with it...can't feel good for Al milgrom though...

I'm glad you took the time for it, because I wouldn't want to erroneously imply that you were unhappy with Al's work!
