Description

For a limited time only, I'm putting up some of my cover art for the short-lived swamp monster comicbook Bog: Swamp Demon. (Note: any unsold Bog art will be removed from the gallery and will no longer be for sale as of January 1st, 2010.)

This cover graced Big Bang #15 (Image Comics, December 1997) and features Bog: Swamp Demon and the venerable fanzine comics character Dr. Weird. What an honor to draw him! Bog was created by my friend Ryan Brown, best known for his work on TMNT and for creating Rockola, Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa, etc. Dr. Weird debuted in Star-Studded Comics #1 (September 1963), the legendary Texan zine from Larry Herndon, Buddy Saunders and Howard Keltner.

This is among my favorite of all the covers I did for other publishers. These were drawn during my Tyrant period, when I was at my peak drawing/inking skills, if I may say so myself.

The original is in perfect condition, rendered with brush, dry-brush, pen and ink with final touchup and rendering done with correctional white, which has yellowed not at all. It's a handsome 12" x 17" (image area: 10" x 15") on 3-ply Bristol Board, framed at the top, left and right with white border tape (easily removed, if you wish to do that).

I had a lot of fun doing these covers, and intend to do more with this character down the road. This is as close as you can get to owning an original Bissette Swamp Thing cover in 2009 without paying thousands of dollars!
