DescriptionFor many Prince Valiant collectors, Queen Aleta reigns supreme. This full-page Sunday features Aleta using her beauty, charm, wisdom and guile to persuade a King. Classic Hal Foster story-telling and gorgeous panels offer profound insights on leadership, compassion and respect for others.Foster's meticulous details and lush, photo-realistic rendering, plus a passion for historical accuracy, all combined to make Prince Valiant what many consider the finest adventure strip ever penned. Few Sundays survived in-tact over time as many were divided up, lost and/or damaged due to their massive size. Published Dec 1946, this full-page Sunday measures a whopping 26" x 34"...each "Tier" (11" x 26") is nearly modern DPS size! Social/Sharing |

Gorgeous Prince Valiant! Each panel is a masterpiece! Love Foster's inks here, the blacks are beautifully placed to make the figures pop! And may i add, Aleta has never looked more lovely! Great pick-up!

Foster’s got some art fans
He's framed around the room, in the size of Hulk hands
He's got to go illustrate
Inking with his touch, got a Sunday strip, yeah
He found an Aleta one
In the art closet, art in boxes of Thule king
I don't even know what
But Thule’s coming for you, yeah, he's coming for you
All the Foster kids with their artwork picks
No better run, better run comic strip run
All the Foster kids with their Thursday picks
No better one, better one Foster than my comic

I never read any of the Price Valiant strips but was able to see a lot of this work in person at the Ohio State cartoon museum. It was massive and impressive! I can see why it's stood the test of time from an art perspective. Happy you picked up a great example!

Like Alex Raymond, Hal Foster was so far ahead of his time, with illustrative skills so far above those of the average cartoonist. It's no wonder he and the best of his contemporaries were often found holding court at lavish parties, seen as legitimate celebrities. You've found yourself a stunning example, Dino, well done!

A Foster Prince Valiant is one of those collecting dreams I would allow myself to indulge if I had had a better education and a better job. LOL! Very envious and also very happy for you Dino. She's a beauty!

just a stunning piece Dino. Hal Fosterjust does so Beautiful work, just the positioning of the fioguers in each panel you can feel the almost playful banter between the woman and the king. each panel is a story within it's self.

Among the Golden and Silver Age comic book artists, who didn't admire and learn from Hal Foster's Prince Valiant? Congratulations Dino!

Yes, Aleta reigns supreme! Hal Foster created one of the most enduring and endearing woman character in the history of comics, and this is certainly one of his biggest accomplishments in a strip that only deserves superlatives... Aleta's relevance in our current period is so accurate that it's easy to forget she was created some 80 years ago...
