Description

This is my favorite Ethan Van Sciver GL cover of all time. In it, Van Sciver evinces not only Brian Bolland, to whom he is often compared, but also apparently channels legendary GL creator Gil Kane. It is a compelling combination that works well in this highly detailed, yet powerful piece.

The "Wanted" TBP for which this is the cover, starts with the often used comic (and movie) mechanism of GL being framed for a multiple murder he didn't commit. It ends up being somewhat more as well as a foundation block for the Blackest Night saga. As with any Geoff Johns / Ivan Reis collaboration, it is a fun ride and a worthwhile read.

Tremendous thanks to Nelson, of Animated Ink fame, and Alkis Vlachos for this piece. If you are lucky in this hobby, you may meet a great collector or you may make a great friend. To me, Nelson is both of these. Remarkably, a short while after I told Nelson how this was my all time favorite EVS GL cover, Alkis kindly sold this piece to Nelson, and Nelson surprised me and offered it to me, deriving no benefit for himself in doing so. Nelson (and Alkis), thank you so very much for everything.

As much as I love this cover, I love the story of how you got it even better! We all know how competetive collectors can get, but it's so refreshing to witness an act of pure unselfishness. While I have not had the pleasure ot interacting very much with Alkis, I know firsthand what a stand up guy Nelson is. Congrats on scoring a personal favorite piece and I'm so glad it worked out for all involved. Hope the good Karma continues to spread for all of you!
