DescriptionTo paraphrase the Jerry McGuire movie, when it comes to Bryan Hitch, he had me at "the Authority." The photorealistic faces, the panoramic views, the dynamic figure work and the ever engaging page layouts all combined to the visual blow you away feeling that you get when you read the Authority. Working with his Authority Collaborator Mark Millar, Hitch brought his talents to Marvel and helped launch Marvel's Ultimate series to much fan and critical success.I'd been a fan of Butch Guice's since his work on Micronauts all those years ago, but I really took a liking to the style he developed when he worked on Ruse (a terrific read by the way) at CrossGen a few years back. When it was announced that these two would be working together on the Captain America Reborn series, I knew that I had to have a page from that series. Unfortunately, pages from that series were snapped up faster than government stimulus money during the recession. Happily, this first splash page from the first book of the series became available and I was able to pick it up. It was and is one of my favorite pages from that entire series and I feel fortunate to have it in my collection. Social/Sharing |

I've been a HUGE fan of Jackson "Butch" Guice for years (ever since his 1ST Superman issue in '91 !). While Guice worked mostly as penciller, I've always enjoyed his inks over other artists... I assume that if he'd chosen to be a fully fledged inker/finisher he'd probably rank among my favorite top 3. This piece here shows just what an artist at Guice's calibre add even to a great artist such as Bryan Hitch... It's Guice's delicate attention to facial expression and realistic nuances that make the art here look even more impressive than Hitch's previous collaborations. Congrats on a true gem !

Very nice. I wondered who was going to be smart enough to pick this beauty up. I'm glad it was you. It's a great page from a great team, and a classic image. Congrats!!

Artemis, a true gem from a modern master penciller and a great inker who has been around for a long time! ps: I held back as long as it was humanly possible from going for this - Im glad you staked the territory when you did - at least I know this beauty resides within driving distance from me!

Hitch will go down (along with John Cassaday on ASTONISHING X-MEN, Gary Frank on ACTION Comics, Alex Maleev on DAREDEVIL) as the signature artist for this era on this character/title. And great timing in picking this up...I have a feeling that this will be an even hotter commodity six months from now!

Hitch's work on the Ultimates is done twice up so I can't imagine just how great this splash looks in person. For Captain America, you can't find a better artist than Hitch. Great addition to your growing collection. Cheers! N.

I'm not a huge fan of HItch lately (sorry)....but this one grabbed my attention as one of the few Hitch drawings that I would want. Congrats once more on a great acquisition. 8 )

An incredible piece of art from a fantastic artistic team in Hitch & Guice. It must be quite the site to see and behold in person.

This really is one of my favorite images of Cap.I bought a Hitch page a while back because it reminded me of this piece, and the spirit of the character and the environment. Congrats...this is an epic piece of art!!!

Captain America, the face of patriotism! Hitch outdid himself on this one. This is a gorgeous rendition of one of the classics! Go Cap!
