DescriptionNo nostalgia here, just an enjoyable image and a cool depiction of the main character. The art has changed hands a few times but it's here to stay for a while.Auction Description: "The story goes that the delivery of this cover art was delayed by a day in shipment and in a last-minute decision, Marvel had artist Mark Texeira produce a duplicate cover based on a Xerox they had of Bolland's rough pencils... [...]...in the meantime, Bolland's cover arrived. At that point, Marvel was on a deadline to get the book to the newsstands, so they went with Texeira's version initially. Reportedly, this caused a rift with Bolland and in a highly unusual move, Marvel made the decision to issue the Direct versions of the published issue with both covers! A fully finished and colored version of Bolland's original intended cover, with logo and trade dress, was produced and wrapped around these Direct editions, with an explanation about the mix-up." Really really nice. Was thinking about going after this myself, but I decided to pay the mortgage.

A shame, would have enjoyed seeing Bolland do more Marvel. But that just makes this all the more special. Congrats!

The only Bolland Howard the Duck art in existence. Pretty darn cool.

Always liked this image--love She-Hulk's expression and her fuzzy sweater. Great Bolland touches..

And it's the "real" Howard the Duck (albeit still forced to wear footwear to placate Disney), before Steve Gerber, Erik Larson and Destroyer Duck kidnapped him and replaced him with the current version. Cheers!
