Description

J. Allen St. John pulp cover -- oil on board. St. John is universally accepted as the "godfather of modern fantasy art," and heavily influenced Frazetta, Krenkel, and an entire generation of fantasy and comic artists. More importantly, however, he made just beautiful, fluid, and mesmerizing images that reflect the pinnacle of this collecting hobby. Huge thanks go to Jim Halperin for making this happen . . .

Exraordinary cover by J. Allen St. John for the cover of Mystic #1, a Science Fiction magazine from the early 1950s. This cover was done for a story called "The Hidden Kingdom: Secret Rulers of the Earth and the Coming Armeggedon." It's not hard to believe that St. John was an inspiration for Frazetta, Krenkel and other fantasy artists. Fabulous painting that seems to feature Father Time and Death (Holding the Scythe) coming down to end it all. Great pick-up, congrats!
